This passage is placed within a description of the messianic process of warming up the heart through cooling down the negative warmth of passion for money that scatters the soul and darkens the will, as R. Nahman seems to put it later in this Torah (see the concluding remarks of this chapter for the political and cultural implications of this move). Despite the radical flavor of the stress on the new, messianic revelation imparted to R. Nahman, I would not describe this text as anti-nomian, as at most it is neo-nomian, in the sense of revitalization, described here in terms of rebirth.17
